When you color try to avoid hunching over a table. Instead, use a large hardback book to prop your page up at an angle or if you have a study you can even treat yourself to a drawing board. Make sure you support your back in a good chair. When you have been lost in your coloring for a while, make sure that when you break to stretch out your hands you also do some simple back stretching exercises too. Place your hands behind your head, lean back and stretch your lower back.
From here you can start to think about more advanced techniques like shading, burnishing and blending colors and begin to work with some of the tools that the coloring professionals use. Remember, these techniques take time and practice to master – don’t expect to be producing masterpieces over night, after all it took Michelangelo 4 years to finish the Sistine Chapel so give yourself at least a good couple of years of practice to produce your first coloring masterpiece!
Just remember, you don’t have to finish your coloring page in one sitting. If you are looking to produce the best finish possible to your coloring page then don’t rush it! Spend multiple sittings, or carve out a couple of hours, but just breathe and take your coloring slow. You aren’t working to a deadline and there is no boss to please (other than you!). The only rule you have is to relax, lose yourself in the page and lay down some color.
